How to get more Google reviews without faking them
A simple routine that gets real reviews from real customers, and why fake ones are not worth the risk.
Why fake reviews are a bad deal
Bought reviews and reviews written by friends look real for a while, then Google's systems catch patterns: new accounts, bursts of reviews on one day, the same phrasing. The penalty is removed reviews, a hidden listing, or the whole profile suspended. Real reviews take longer but cannot be taken away. We never post or buy reviews for clients, and we will not help anyone do it.
The routine that works
- Get your review link. In your Google Business Profile, there is a "Get more reviews" link. Save it on your phone.
- Ask at the right moment. Right after the job, when the customer is happy and standing next to you. "Would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? It really helps a small business." Then send the link by text while you are there.
- Make it one tap. The link opens the review box directly. No searching, no signing up.
- Ask everyone, not just the easy ones. Most people who are asked in person and get the link do it. Most people who are not asked never think of it.
- Reply to every review. A short thank-you on good reviews and a calm, specific reply on bad ones. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews.
What a bad review reply looks like, and a good one
Bad: arguing, blaming the customer, or copying the same reply everywhere. Good: "Sorry the crew ran late on Tuesday, that is on us. We have changed how we schedule the morning jobs. If you would like us to make it right, call me directly." Short, specific, human.
How many do you need?
There is no magic number. A business with ten recent, real reviews and replies usually looks better than one with two hundred old ones. Recent matters: keep asking.
If you want help
Our $50 a month Google Maps add-on includes the review routine: we send the request messages to your real customers (with your say-so), reply to reviews in your voice, and keep the listing fresh with posts and photos. What we never do is write reviews.
